Explore Hanabi Glass Studio
Discover the exquisite artistry of Hanabi Glass Studio, where the passion and skill of artist Lucas Mahoney come to life in each handcrafted glass pen. Since his youth, Lucas has been fascinated with crafting, his creativity kindled by materials of all kinds. But it was glass that captured his imagination and never let go, a fascination that began with a childhood memory of marveling at a lamp worker's glass ship—a treasure he cherishes today.
Lucas's journey with glass began at nineteen when he was entranced by the beauty and complexity of glasswork. His dedication to the craft led him to become an apprentice and, over time, a master glassmaker. In 2007, an unexpected turn of events brought him to Japan, where a chance encounter with a glass artisan on a train—sparked by a knit hat from an American competition—led to a decade-long collaboration and the establishment of his studio in 2017.
At Hanabi Glass Studio, nestled in the scenic beauty of Kanagawa, Japan, Lucas blends the robust tradition of American Borosilicate glass with a diverse array of techniques to create pens that are writing instruments and pieces of art. Each pen embodies elegance, with lustrous shafts and designs as bold and intricate as fireworks, the very essence of the studio's name—Hanabi(花火), meaning "fireworks" in Japanese, a nod to Lucas's work with fire to create stunning pieces.
