Goldfish Aquarium Glass Dip Pen
This delightful glass pen features a charming little fishbowl at the tip, with playful red and orange goldfish that seem to swim merrily. The pen shaft, reminiscent of a fishbowl filled with water plants, combines with the fishbowl tip to create a truly unique glass pen experience. It's an enchanting piece that brings a touch of whimsy and aquatic beauty to your writing routine.
While many glass pens in Japan are made from hard glass, Sanae Abe from Glass Studio a_bee creates all of her glass pens from soft glass. This material melts at relatively low temperatures and has high rates of expansion when heated and contraction when cooled, which makes uniform processing difficult and increases the likelihood of cracking during production. Sanae capitalizes on this propensity for non-uniformity, crafting pens where each shaft to tip varies slightly, resembling the fluidity of water, thus ensuring each pen has its own individual variance.
Sanae embraces this individuality, eschewing mass production for a process that, while more time-consuming, celebrates the distinct beauty found in each creation. She invites you to partake in an experience closer to art than mere writing, to savor the distinct pleasure of a pen that is as much a masterpiece as a tool for expression.
As you can see from the product photos, each piece has a notable degree of individuality, showcasing the unique variances that can occur. While it's a surprise which distinct personality each pen will possess upon arrival, rest assured that you will cherish the one-of-a-kind character it brings.

Discover Glass Studio a_bee
Glass Studio a_bee stands proudly near Sayamagaoka station in Saitama with its charming bee logo. It was founded by Sanae Abe, who was born in Tokyo's heart at Nihonbashi. She entered the creative world through her studies in visual communication design at the prestigious Musashino Art University.
After university, Sanae thrived as a graphic designer in advertising but yearned to shape her artistic vision rather than meet commercial needs. Thus, in 2014, she embarked on crafting lampwork beads. While she learned glass sculpting in classes held by a Japanese glass material manufacturer, her career and skills as a glass artisan are largely self-taught, which is why her pieces are so distinctive, reflecting her individuality. Her designs, especially the glass pens encapsulating miniature aquariums, tell this story.
What sets her work apart is her choice of soft glass over the more commonly used hard glass by many artisans. Despite its challenges, like a higher expansion coefficient leading to increased fragility with temperature changes and more variation between pieces, Sanae's efforts yield flexibility in design that simulates the enchanting effect of fish trapped in an aquarium.
Why not experience the uniqueness of her glass pens firsthand? Each piece is a testament to Sanae's unique blend of art and craftsmanship.
