Japanese Urushi Pens

Japanese urushi pens, finished by hand in natural urushi lacquer, the sap of the lacquer tree, which hardens slowly in humid air instead of drying like paint. Every pen here is made in Japan: Tsugaru-nuri fountain pens from Hirosaki, chinkin fountain pens engraved into Echizen lacquer and inlaid with gold, NIVI wooden pens wiped in fuki-urushi, and rollerball pens layered in colored urushi by Toshiyuki Tatsumi.

Because every coat is laid and cured by hand, no two pens are exactly alike, and the surface keeps changing as the pen is used. See our Tsugaru-nuri urushi fountain pens or all Japanese fountain pens.
