Chinkin Kikusui Echizen Lacquered Fountain Pen
FREE SHIPPING
Graceful, regal, and timeless — the Chinkin Kikusui Echizen Lacquered Fountain Pen embodies the quiet beauty of Japanese symbolism, where chrysanthemums bloom under the gentle arc of a golden moon.
Painstakingly handcrafted from natural wood, the barrel is coated with multiple layers of Echizen urushi lacquer, producing a glossy, midnight-black canvas. Upon this dark surface, a skilled artisan uses the ancient chinkin technique to carve delicate chrysanthemums, each petal etched with extraordinary precision.
The engraved grooves are then inlaid with silver and gold powders, giving depth and radiance to the design. Flowing water lines, barely visible yet ever-present, suggest movement and life — an elegant nod to the “kikusui” motif, where chrysanthemums float gently on a stream beneath the moonlight.
This exquisite pen is engraved by Sagiri Matsubara, a celebrated chinkin artist known for her refined sense of balance and grace. The Kikusui is not just a Japanese fountain pen; it is a statement of serenity, craftsmanship, and cultural richness.

Sagiri Matsubara: Crafting Premium Japanese Fountain Pen
Sagiri Matsubara is a contemporary Japanese artist specializing in chinkin, a traditional technique of carving lacquerware and inlaying designs with gold or silver. Born in 1995 in Fukui City, she began her apprenticeship in 2016 under master craftsman Katsu Yamamoto.
Her work blends classical skill with modern aesthetics. She creates fountain pens, tableware, and other lacquerware that reflect both precision and grace. Each piece reveals her deep respect for tradition, while offering a fresh, contemporary sensibility.
In 2020, she received the Special Jury Prize at the National Lacquerware Exhibition. As a young artist pushing the boundaries of chinkin, her creations are already treasured—and their value will only continue to grow.
