Chinkin Sakura and Fuji Echizen Lacquered Fountain Pen
FREE SHIPPING
A celebration of fleeting beauty and timeless craftsmanship, the Chinkin Sakura and Fuji Echizen Lacquered Japanese Fountain Pen brings together the poetic elegance of cherry blossoms and the enduring majesty of Mt. Fuji — two of Japan’s most iconic symbols — in a single, breathtaking work of art.
Hand-carved from natural wood, the barrel is masterfully lacquered with multiple layers of Echizen urushi, one of Japan’s most revered lacquer traditions. The result is a rich, glossy surface that exudes warmth, depth, and subtle luster with every turn.
The scene is then brought to life through the ancient chinkin technique — a meticulous process in which the artist carves fine grooves into the lacquered surface and inlays them with precious metal powders. Here, silver powder delicately renders each petal of the sakura, while radiant gold evokes the flowing form of a red Mt. Fuji at dawn.
Every pen is engraved by Sagiri Matsubara, a rising star in the world of Japanese lacquer arts. Though still in her 30s, she has already won acclaim for her refined sense of composition and technical mastery. Her touch transforms this pen into more than a writing tool — it is a tactile expression of Japanese seasonal aesthetics, captured in brilliant detail.
This is a pen for collectors, connoisseurs, and those who appreciate not only the written word but the art of making beauty last.

Sagiri Matsubara: Crafting Premium Japanese Fountain Pen
Sagiri Matsubara is a contemporary Japanese artist specializing in chinkin, a traditional technique of carving lacquerware and inlaying designs with gold or silver. Born in 1995 in Fukui City, she began her apprenticeship in 2016 under master craftsman Katsu Yamamoto.
Her work blends classical skill with modern aesthetics. She creates Japanese fountain pens, tableware, and other lacquerware that reflect both precision and grace. Each piece reveals her deep respect for tradition, while offering a fresh, contemporary sensibility.
In 2020, she received the Special Jury Prize at the National Lacquerware Exhibition. As a young artist pushing the boundaries of chinkin, her creations are already treasured—and their value will only continue to grow.
