Immerse yourself in the serenity of spring with this Japanese fountain pen, adorned with drifting sakura on a calm river. Delicate pink petals and golden accents evoke a peaceful riverside scene, inviting a tranquil writing experience.

Traditional Mino Washi, used for the barrel, is handcrafted in Gifu Prefecture’s historic Mino region. Mino Washi dates back to the 8th century and is among Japan’s three most esteemed washi papers. This durable paper has been used for imperial documents and the restoration of cultural treasures.

The washi barrel features a Yuzen-style floral motif and is sealed with protective acrylic resin. Each pen includes gold-plated accents and a reliable nib and converter from Germany’s DAYACOM. The screw cap attaches securely to the back during writing, ensuring stability and convenience. It supports standard international ink cartridges and comes with a converter for bottled ink.

This Japanese fountain pen arrives in a fragrant cedar box from Gifu, decorated with Hokusai’s iconic “Great Wave.” A perfect gift and a timeless piece for Japanese pens enthusiasts who value tradition and artistry.

Yasutaka Takeuchi: Master of Handcrafted Japanese Fountain Pen

Haruki Takeuchi | Komorebi Stationery

Yasutaka Takeuchi, born in 1981 in Mie Prefecture, is a craftsman who has inherited the essence of traditional Japanese calligraphy brushes, a skill passed down from his grandfather's generation. From a young age, Takeuchi harbored a deep admiration for brush artisans, leading him to apprentice under his uncle after graduating high school. Despite shifting to a stable office job upon marriage, his passion for craftsmanship never waned.

Self-taught, Takeuchi embarked on creating brush prototypes from scratch. His journey into pen-making began serendipitously while researching turning techniques online, where he stumbled upon a pen that captured his imagination.

Takeuchi applies the meticulous craftsmanship of traditional calligraphy brush making, carefully selecting materials and painstakingly shaping and polishing each piece by hand. His pens transcend mere writing instruments, becoming works of art that inspire creativity and innovation in their users.

The fountain pens wrapped in Mino Washi paper stand out among his creations. These pens embody the pinnacle of Takeuchi's craftsmanship, merging Japanese tradition with the artisan's dedication. Owning and using one of Takeuchi's pens is not just about experiencing the joy and pleasure of a fine writing instrument but also about connecting with the rich traditions and passionate spirit of a Japanese craftsman. Yasutaka Takeuchi's handcrafted pens are more than just tools; they are a valuable addition to any collection, symbolizing the fusion of Japanese tradition and artisanal passion.
