RO-BIKI Kiku Notebook – Dot Grid

Sale price$12.00 USD

A pocket-sized Japanese notebook from Yamamoto Paper, finished with a ro-biki (waxed) cover that quietly changes as you carry it. The surface starts crisp. Over time, corners polish, creases settle in, and the print deepens, a cover that ages the way good things do.

The cover features Chrysanthemums and Bee by Katsushika Hokusai, from his Large Flowers series (early 1830s). It feels closer and more intimate than his famous waves and mountains. Here, warm orange and yellow chrysanthemums fill the frame, with a single bee tucked among the petals. On ro-biki paper, that botanical warmth feels right at home, and the colors take on a softer depth as the cover wears in.

Ro-biki (蝋引き) is made by working wax into the paper by hand, leaving a lightly textured finish with subtle water resistance. It is not sealed like plastic. It breathes, it marks, and the waxed cover develops its own character the more you use it.

Inside are 60 pages of 65 gsm Soliste paper, smooth and fountain-pen-friendly with minimal feathering and bleed-through. The dot grid adds just enough structure for notes, sketches, journaling, and whatever else you carry with you. Ideal as an everyday carry pocket notebook for travel notes, café writing, and a simple daily journal, with the kind of paper Japanese stationery lovers reach for when they want a dependable fountain pen experience.

Explore our Japanese notebook collection, crafted for exceptional writing and creative sketching.

Yamamoto Paper — Preserving the Joy of Paper for the Future

Based in Sakai, Osaka, Yamamoto Paper was founded in 1972 as a paper specialist. Drawing on decades of experience connecting paper manufacturers with end users, they now design and produce their own original stationery. At the heart of their work is a belief in “sharing the joy and warmth of paper with confidence for generations to come.”

Rather than simply selling beautiful paper, Yamamoto Paper values delivering the full character of each sheet—its writing feel, texture, and the way it changes over time. They are also known as “custodians” of paper culture, reviving legendary papers that have gone out of production and passing them on to the next generation.

What makes Yamamoto Paper especially beloved is their balance of craftsmanship and playfulness. Their Paper Tasting series, for example, lets you sample different types of paper as if you were tasting wine, turning the exploration of paper into a delightful experience. It’s this combination of uncompromising quality and creative spirit that has earned them loyal fans among stationery lovers and fountain pen enthusiasts around the world.
