RO-BIKI Flower Notebook – Dot Grid

Sale price$12.00 USD

A Japanese notebook featuring "Still Life with Flowers and a Watch" (c. 1665) by Abraham Mignon, a masterwork of the Dutch Golden Age held at the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. The RO-BIKI NOTE by Yamamoto Paper is a pocket-sized dot grid notebook with a waxed cover, designed for everyday writing and creative sketching.

The cover features Yamamoto Paper's signature RO-BIKI (wax-coating) technique applied to recycled kraft paper, giving the notebook a smooth, tactile surface that is water-resistant, durable, and visually distinctive. The wax finish deepens the rich colors of Mignon's floral arrangement — roses, tulips, and morning glories cascading against a dark background — while keeping the notebook flexible enough for a pocket or bag.

Abraham Mignon (1640–1679) trained under Jan Davidsz. de Heem, the master of the Dutch flower piece, and developed his own virtuosic command of surface and texture: the velvety petals, the iridescent shell of a snail, and the cold face of a pocket watch half-hidden among blooms. The watch — a Vanitas symbol — quietly marks the passage of time amid all this beauty, yet Mignon's evident delight in the painterly richness of living things gives the work a vitality that endures across centuries. The original is held at the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.

Inside, dot grid pages in Solist paper, a woodfree stock with a warm cream tone and gentle tooth at 65 g/m². Fountain pen inks absorb cleanly with minimal feathering or bleed-through, and the uncoated surface brings out depth and richness in ink colors. At just 30 grams, this Japanese notebook fits into any pocket and is ready whenever you need it.

Yamamoto Paper — Preserving the Joy of Paper for the Future

Based in Sakai, Osaka, Yamamoto Paper was founded in 1972 as a paper specialist. Drawing on decades of experience connecting paper manufacturers with end users, they now design and produce their own original stationery. At the heart of their work is a belief in “sharing the joy and warmth of paper with confidence for generations to come.”

Rather than simply selling beautiful paper, Yamamoto Paper values delivering the full character of each sheet—its writing feel, texture, and the way it changes over time. They are also known as “custodians” of paper culture, reviving legendary papers that have gone out of production and passing them on to the next generation.

What makes Yamamoto Paper especially beloved is their balance of craftsmanship and playfulness. Their Paper Tasting series, for example, lets you sample different types of paper as if you were tasting wine, turning the exploration of paper into a delightful experience. It’s this combination of uncompromising quality and creative spirit that has earned them loyal fans among stationery lovers and fountain pen enthusiasts around the world.
