Red Pine Wooden Page Notebook B6
Every page in this red pine notebook is made from real wood. Not paper inspired by wood, not paper printed with wood grain, but actual Japanese red pine (Akamatsu), shaved into sheets thin enough to turn.
This is the B6 size of our best-selling Red Pine Wooden Page Notebook A6. Many of you have asked us to bring back the B6 format, and after working closely with the manufacturer, we're pleased to offer it again. The larger surface gives you more room to sketch, draw, and write on a material unlike anything else in your collection. Unlike the A6, the B6 opens flat, so you can write and draw across the full spread without holding the pages down.
The pages are made using a technique called Kyogi. Over 1,500 years ago in Japan, when paper was still rare and expensive, Buddhist monks wrote sutras on thin slices of wood. That tradition eventually faded as paper became widely available, but the craft of shaving wood into ultra-thin sheets survived in Nagano Prefecture. Today, the manufacturer Yamatowa, based in the Ina Valley, works with skilled artisans who have refined this ancient method into something you can hold in your hands.
Each page carries the natural grain, texture, and subtle fragrance of red pine. No two pages look exactly the same. The wood grain creates a surface that responds differently to every pen, pencil, and brush stroke, which is why many of our customers use this notebook as a small canvas for colored pencil illustrations, ink sketches, and mixed-media artwork.
Because these pages are 100% natural wood, ink from fountain pens will bleed and show through. This is not a flaw. Many of our customers actually love the way fountain pen ink interacts with the wood fibers, creating unexpected patterns and textures. For clean lines, a pencil, ballpoint pen, or colored pencils work best.
Over time, the wood pages may change color slightly, and some pages may warp with humidity. These are signs that you're holding a natural material that continues to age and evolve, much like the forests where it originated.
The cover is made from recycled paper, which reflects the manufacturer's broader commitment to sustainability. The red pine used for the pages comes from forest thinning in the Ina Valley. Thinning removes excess trees so the remaining forest gets enough sunlight and space to stay healthy. By purchasing this notebook, you're directly supporting a cycle that keeps Japan's mountain forests well-maintained and thriving.

Coexistence with the Forest of Shiki Bun
In the Ina Valley, located in Nagano Prefecture in Japan, a company called Yamatowa supports coexistence with forests. Once, people were closely involved with forests and received many blessings from them. However, as lifestyles changed and forests were left untended, overgrown and dark forests increased. Untrimmed branches and leaves block sunlight, damaging the health and ecosystem of the forest.

Yamatowa believes that although it's difficult to return to the old ways of living, it's possible to bring living closer to forests again and increase the number of healthy and bright forests that are well-maintained, as in the past. They think that using Japanese wood appropriately in daily life will lead to forest conservation, and with this in mind, they launched a brand called Shiki.

To realize their vision, they use Akamatsu pine from the Ina Valley, and skilled woodworkers create products including notebooks and other wooden products.
