This Japanese fountain pen showcases the bold elegance of peony motifs on a background of traditional Mino Washi. The deep indigo and white design embodies the timeless beauty of Japanese artistry, with intricate floral patterns symbolizing prosperity and honor, adding a touch of refined grace to every writing experience.

Crafted with pride in the Mino region of Gifu Prefecture, Mino Washi's history dates back to the 8th century and takes place among Japan's three excellent washi papers. The sturdy, masterpiece-quality paper has been used through the ages for court documents, as the interior motif, and, as now, for objet d'art. Today, it won international accolades for restoring Japan's national treasure-class paintings and cultural properties.

To ensure a long brush with elegance, each fountain pen is expertly handcrafted with gold-plated accents and features a nib and converter from one of the finest makers, Dayacom, in Germany. The handmade washi paper barrel, featuring a traditional Yuzen pattern of stylized floral motifs, is meticulously applied then coated with an acrylic resin to protect against everyday wear. Additionally, the pen is designed with a screw-on cap that securely fastens to the pen’s head when writing, providing convenience and stability. For consistent ink flow, it comes equipped with a standard European ink converter for bottled ink and standard European ink cartridges, available in your country.

And to your great delight, this pen arrives cradled in a fragrant cedar box, hewn from the Nagara cedars of Gifu Prefecture. The box's surface is adorned with the iconic ink painting 'The Great Wave' by Katsushika Hokusai, serving as a striking pen case to enhance your desk and as an ideal gift.

Yasutaka Takeuchi: Master of Handcrafted Pens

Haruki Takeuchi | Komorebi Stationery

Yasutaka Takeuchi, born in 1981 in Mie Prefecture, is a craftsman who has inherited the essence of traditional Japanese calligraphy brushes, a skill passed down from his grandfather's generation. From a young age, Takeuchi harbored a deep admiration for brush artisans, leading him to apprentice under his uncle after graduating high school. Despite shifting to a stable office job upon marriage, his passion for craftsmanship never waned.

Self-taught, Takeuchi embarked on creating brush prototypes from scratch. His journey into pen-making began serendipitously while researching turning techniques online, where he stumbled upon a pen that captured his imagination.

Takeuchi applies the meticulous craftsmanship of traditional calligraphy brush making, carefully selecting materials and painstakingly shaping and polishing each piece by hand. His pens transcend mere writing instruments, becoming works of art that inspire creativity and innovation in their users.

The fountain pens wrapped in Mino Washi paper stand out among his creations. These pens embody the pinnacle of Takeuchi's craftsmanship, merging Japanese tradition with the artisan's dedication. Owning and using one of Takeuchi's pens is not just about experiencing the joy and pleasure of a fine writing instrument but also about connecting with the rich traditions and passionate spirit of a Japanese craftsman. Yasutaka Takeuchi's handcrafted pens are more than just tools; they are a valuable addition to any collection, symbolizing the fusion of Japanese tradition and artisanal passion.
