The Paper Tasting Writing Pad Set – Translucent vol.3 brings together three translucent Japanese papers chosen for their delicate, see-through character: tracing paper, glassine, and Junpack. Each of the three mini writing pads (25 sheets each) lets you feel how these specialty papers take a pen. Their smooth, dense surfaces hold ink on top rather than soaking it in, so ball-point, gel, and pencil feel especially at home, while fountain pen ink takes longer to dry. The set also includes a short insert card sharing a piece of paper knowledge, such as what paper grain is or where standard paper sizes come from.
Tracing Paper (B7) – A translucent paper made by finely beating chemical pulp and then processing it. True to its name it is used for tracing drawings, and even in lighting fixtures, and its smooth, see-through surface gives a distinctive feel under the pen.
Glassine (A6) – Made from chemical pulp worked under heat and high pressure until it becomes smooth, dense, and translucent. Food-safe, it is widely used to wrap medicine and food, and writing on its glassy surface is an experience unlike ordinary paper.
Junpack (B6) – A wrapping paper commonly used for packaging in Japan, with a smooth, glossy front and a slightly rough back, the one-sided finish typical of paper made on a Yankee machine. The two faces take a pen differently, and it sits most comfortably with ball-point, gel, and pencil rather than fountain pens.
Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to paper, and even the same sheet feels different depending on the nib or tip of a pen. Exploring how these translucent writing pads respond to ink and touch is one of the true joys of writing. The Paper Tasting Writing Pad Set series is designed to satisfy that curiosity, an engaging way to compare, discover, and celebrate the diversity of Japanese paper stationery.
