"These were great texture and size samples. A great way to test different paper and decide which works best for you. A great idea and a reasonable price too!"

The Paper Tasting Writing Pad Set – Silky vol.4 is built around exceptionally smooth, silky-surfaced Japanese papers that offer minimal resistance to the pen tip and let ink glide effortlessly. Each of the three included pads holds 25 sheets of a different paper, chosen to show how smooth Japanese papers can flatter fountain pens, ballpoints, gel pens, and pencils alike. The set also includes a short insert card sharing a piece of paper knowledge, such as what paper grain is or where standard paper sizes come from.
TATEYAMA (B7) – A high-bulk book paper named for the brilliant silver-white snow of the Tateyama mountain range. Among book papers it stands out for its high whiteness, which makes color inks look brighter on the page. In Yamamoto Paper's own writing tests, even low-viscosity inks stay put without feathering and do not bleed through, giving clean, sharp lines on a bright sheet.
Canopus (A6) – Named after the second brightest star in the night sky, Canopus was developed by Yamamoto Paper over three years as a successor to the discontinued Cosmo Air Light. Its micro-coated, high-bulk surface controls absorption precisely, so ink sits long enough to reveal its shading and sheen before drying cleanly.
Sheep Clouds Bond (B6) – Released by Yamamoto Paper in 2024, this sturdy 70 gsm bond paper blends broadleaf and conifer pulp for strength and smoothness, and resists bleed-through with fountain pens. Held up to the light, its fibers intertwine to reveal the soft sheep clouds pattern that gives the paper its name.
Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to paper, and even the same sheet feels different depending on the nib or tip of a pen. Exploring how these silky-surfaced writing pads respond to different writing tools is one of the true joys of stationery. The Paper Tasting Writing Pad Set series is designed to satisfy that curiosity, an engaging way to compare, discover, and celebrate the diversity of Japanese paper stationery.
