These KateJo Onion Skin Planner Inserts in M5 size hold 50 sheets of TAKEO's own onion skin paper in a smoky pale blue, plus two pearlescent lifter sheets, for an M5 ring planner. Onion skin paper is a very thin, lightweight writing paper with a softly crinkled surface and a translucent look, named for its resemblance to the papery outer skin of an onion.

M5 is the most compact of TAKEO's three refill sizes, with 6.2 × 10.5 cm sheets and five holes, a size that suits a small planner you carry every day. The sheets are blank, so you can use them for daily logs, lists or quick sketches. TAKEO notes that the paper works well with pencils, pens and fountain pens, and its crinkle gives writing a distinctive feel. Because the paper is translucent, writing shows through from the back, which some writers enjoy for layered layouts and tracing.

Two lifters made from Stardream-FS Night Blue, a metallic pearl paper that recalls a starry sky, help the thin pages turn smoothly on the rings. Place one at the start and one at the end of the onion skin pages. The pale blue is a soft, smoky light blue that TAKEO introduced in autumn 2023.

Onion skin paper was once a familiar office and correspondence paper: typists used it for carbon copies, and its light weight suited airmail letters. In Japan, production came to an end in 2010 as the machines that made it aged. Fountain pen users in particular missed it, so TAKEO searched for a paper mill able to make it again, and after repeated trials the company revived it in 2020 as KateJo onion skin, TAKEO's own original paper.
