Helix Dawn Glass Dip Pen with Pen Rest

The Helix Dawn Glass Dip Pen from Gabi Kobo is a handcrafted Japanese glass dip pen with a frosted, matte-finished barrel, turquoise at one end and pale violet at the other, crossed by a white lattice and a fine russet cane. They are the colours of a sky just before sunrise.

The lattice and the russet cane are drawn onto the frosted surface. Look along the barrel beneath them and you can see where the turquoise gives way to the pale violet.

Tomoya Sakagami came across a beginner's burner kit in a department store, started out of curiosity and taught himself the rest. Traditional Japanese pattern work runs through much of what he makes.

A pen rest of two fused spheres, one dark brown and one turquoise, each marked with a white fan on the surface, is included and holds the nib clear of the page. Rinse the nib in water when you move between Japanese dip pen inks.
