Located in Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture, Yamanaka has been renowned for over 400 years as a center of lacquerware production, especially for its exceptional woodturning techniques (rokuro-biki). The lacquerware from this region is beloved for its graceful forms, deep, lustrous red and black tones, and smooth texture that fits comfortably in the hand.

Growing alongside this rich tradition, Maeju played a key role in elevating Yamanaka to become Japan’s top lacquerware-producing region. With over 80 years of history, Maeju has earned its place as a prestigious name in Yamanaka lacquerware, dedicated to sharing the beauty of Japanese lacquer with the world.
