Dressco Spica Laid Bond Paper Stitched Notebook – A6 Variant

Sale price$11.00 USD

Color:Avocado

Lightweight and portable, this stitched Japanese notebook is compact enough to slip into a pocket or small bag, ready whenever inspiration appears. Though slightly smaller than A6, it opens flat for easy writing. Available in two refined tones: Avocado, with a calm, earthy warmth, and White, pure and understated, highlighting the texture of the paper itself.

The pages are made with Spica Laid Bond Paper (48.64 gsm) — a lightweight version of the same cotton-rich writing paper crafted by Mitsubishi Paper Mills at its Takasago Mill in Hyogo, Japan. First introduced in 1970, this paper was produced on the same fourth paper machine that created the beloved Bank Ledger Paper, admired by fountain pen enthusiasts for its smooth, durable texture. Production of Spica Laid Bond Paper ended in October 2024 when the historic machine was retired, and no other machine can recreate its exact feel.

The name Spica comes from the brightest star in Virgo, and its constellation appears as a delicate watermark on each sheet — a quiet symbol of craftsmanship and heritage. Originally designed for legal documents, bond paper became prized for its strength, refined texture, and gentle ink absorption.

This 48.64 gsm version is remarkably fountain-pen friendly, offering a light, crisp feel with smooth ink flow and minimal show-through. Because the paper is no longer being made, once the remaining stock is gone, it cannot be restocked. Each notebook is a rare opportunity to hold a piece of Japan’s papermaking legacy — light in form, yet rich in history.

TAKEO: More Than Just Paper

Founded in 1899 as a small paper shop in Kyobashi, Tokyo, TAKEO later moved to Kanda and has spent more than a century refining the expressive power of paper in a neighborhood of editors and printers. TAKEO sees paper not as a mere material but as an experience that begins the moment it is held. The warmth against the hand, the way light passes through a sheet, the sound when a page turns — the company has quietly explored why paper stays in our memory.

This approach comes to life at the Mihoncho Main Store (Paper Sample Gallery) in Kanda, Nishikicho. Visitors can pick up sheets, hold them to the light, stack and flip them, and check every nuance before they buy. You can feel the shades of white, the shadows of embossing, and the character of ink on a surface. Rather than simply selling paper as a tool, TAKEO creates a place where you can feel it first and choose with confidence. That commitment sits at the company’s core.

Its technical foundation is equally solid. TAKEO understands paper-making design, surface finishing, the reproducibility of color and texture, and the expressions that printing, processing, and binding can bring, then links these insights to the work of designers and production teams. This is why the company has supported choices where paper leads the story, from a single business card to book covers, packaging, and everyday stationery. For people who love paper, TAKEO is a trusted guide that helps you begin not with what to use, but with how it should feel and what it should communicate.
