Inside is Spica Laid Bond Paper, a cotton-rich writing paper crafted with precision by Mitsubishi Paper Mills at its Takasago Mill in Hyogo. First produced in 1970 on the same fourth paper machine that created the legendary Bank Ledger Paper, it was discontinued in October 2024 when that historic machine was retired. Once a paper machine stops, no other can reproduce the same feel, making every remaining sheet truly irreplaceable.

The name Spica comes from the brightest star in Virgo, and its constellation appears as a delicate watermark on each page—a quiet symbol of craftsmanship and heritage. Originally designed for legal documents and certificates, bond paper became prized for its strength, smooth surface, and refined texture, later embraced in fine Japanese stationery.

More than fifty years later, this paper is cherished by fountain pen enthusiasts for its balance of smoothness and gentle resistance. Because it is no longer produced, once the remaining stock is gone, it cannot be restocked.
