Cathedral Glass Dip Pen
This Cathedral Glass Dip Pen, handcrafted by Japanese glass artist Hideki Hosaka of FLAME WORKS, captures the look of a stained-glass cathedral window in glass. Panes of red, yellow, blue, and green sit side by side across the body, outlined in black lines like the leading of a church window.
The clear glass nib is twisted into fine grooves that draw ink up smoothly as you write, finished with a touch of aqua at its base. Its faceted, spiraling shaft catches the light, and on a sunny desk it casts soft pools of colored shadow across the page.
Like all glass dip pens, it holds enough ink for comfortable writing and rinses clean in water, making it lovely for letters, journaling, and calligraphy, as well as for swatching different bottled inks.
The fine black outlines give the mosaic a delicate feel when you look closely. Shaped entirely by hand in Hosaka's studio in Chiba, just outside Tokyo, no two pens carry exactly the same pattern.
