Goshuincho Stamp Book

A Goshuincho is a Japanese notebook used to collect goshuin—stamps and calligraphy from Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples. Each entry records the shrine or temple’s name, date, and a prayer, hand-inscribed by staff. It’s a meaningful way to commemorate visits and explore Japan’s spiritual culture.

You can receive a goshuin at many Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples across Japan. Visit the shrine or temple office (shamusho) and politely present your goshuincho to request one. A small fee (about 2–4 USD) is required. It’s a memorable way to mark your visit and connect with Japan’s culture.

Usually, one Goshuincho works for both temples and shrines. It’s used to collect seals as a record of your visits and is accepted regardless of religion. Some temples, however, may require a sect-specific Goshuincho, so it’s best to check in advance.
